This was because the type of shoe that people collected was only available in certain shops and they were very expensive. But, as sneaker collecting became more mainstream, the regular sneaker stores started stocking the brands that were collectible, like New Balance, Nike and Air Jordan.

If you are thinking about starting a sneaker collection, then you have come to the right place. If you read on, you will find tips on choosing a brand, getting your hands on the latest sneaker, and forming relationships with sneaker stores.

Tips

Brand – If you want an exclusive collection, then you might be better sticking to one brand. Sometimes, brands like Nike and New Balance will have new sneakers every week, but they are not limited editions, and everyone will be buying them. If you stick to the limited editions then you will find that you have more money to spend and if you re-sell the sneakers, you will make a lot more money. You should also think about sticking to Jordan Brand because they only release their sneakers on certain days. They don’t release on a weekly basis, so you have some time to get some savings behind you, so that you have money for a rainy day and for when the new Jordan sneakers get released.

Online – When sneakers release, then some people will get up early and try to get online to buy the sneaker. Sneakers generally release online at 8am and if you try to get online at that time then you might have some trouble. The most popular online stores will crash if too many people try to get online at the same time, so if you have a size of shoe that is weird and not many people have that size, then you will be better waiting for a few hours and then buying the shoes when there aren’t too many people online. Otherwise, you should look at stores that aren’t considered mainstream because they will have full stock for a lot longer than the regular stores. A lot of people don’t know this, but if you have a look at street wear stores, they have started to stock sneakers as well. Sometimes they only stock skateboarding models of shoes, but most of the time, they will have full stock of brands like Air Jordan and Converse.

Queues – If you are thinking of heading to the high street stores, then be ready to wait in a queue for a few hours. If you know that the store opens at 10am, then you queue by 8am to guarantee that you will get your hands on a pair. Sometimes, stores will only stock one size of each show so that it builds up ‘hype’ about the shoe and gets people talking. When they do this, they can sometimes have a restock of the full sizes through the week. Generally, if you ask a sales person If the shoes are going to restock in the week. However, if you make friends with the people in the store and ask them before the shoes release, if there will be a re-stock, then they will probably tell you as long as you promise to keep quiet about it.
